A human resources (HR) and organizational effectiveness (OE) leader, Mr. Herpel’s extensive experience includes driving global HR and OE strategy for Pfizer/Wyeth, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and other leading organizations in the pharmaceutical, vaccines and biopharma industries. He led global HR teams in drug and vaccine development, with a focus on building and maintaining effective, highly functional R&D organizations. He specializes in organizational and talent management solutions and strategies for pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and as a business development executive for life sciences executive search firms.
His leadership expertise has meaningful impact to the pharmaceutical industry. For example, in response to the Consent Decree mandate, Mr. Herpel led the creation of an electronic job description database process for all vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing and development positions, automating compliance to FDA GMP requirements. He was instrumental in the successful global realignment of clinical supply operations, which enabled drugs to move more efficiently and rapidly to clinical trial phases; served as HR leader and member of the R&D ChangeManagement/Process Excellence Team for the successful integration of Janssen Pharmaceutical’s global preclinical and clinical development organizations (following acquisition by Johnson & Johnson); and successfully designed and implemented R&D career ladders and competency models for scientists and engineers, which became a core component in recruitment, performance evaluation, and talent development.
