Steve Hammond — Process Analytics and PAT Innovator

A technology innovator/inventor in his own right, Mr. Hammond is a globally recognized expert in the area of process based analytics. He authored or co-authored numerous scientific publications on the pharmaceutical applications of Process Analytical Technologies and contributed many oral presentations on this subject as an invited speaker. 

As Senior Director/Team leader of Pfizer Global Technology Process Analytical Sciences, Mr. Hammond was responsible for a team of more than 30 scientists and oversaw development and deployment of Process Analytical Technologies. He guided his team in the development of advanced sensors and data collection, knowledge engineering, advanced control systems and predictive modeling. Mr. Hammond developed a suite of PAT sensors and custom interfaces for the monitoring and control of continuous manufacturing streams, both solid dose forms and continuous flow reactors. The multiple interfaces for Pfizer’s solid dose platform (PCMM) are capable of delivering reliable and sensitive measurements on powder/granule/ tablet cores, in real-time as the materials are moving through the process. He was also responsible for the creation, development and strategic focus of the Material Characterization Team within Pfizer manufacturing, providing material science support and forensic analysis services to the Pfizer Global Supply plant network.
